Doug Newlove Memorial Library

The Doug Newlove Memorial Library was started with a large collection of books and DVDs donated by the estate of the late Doug Newlove, who was a founding member of the TWG and a master woodturner.  Currently, TWG members can choose from more than 200 items to borrow free of charge.  Neil Haist and Joe Fernandes manage the library and make it available at each meeting.  Using your membership card, you can sign out any of the items for a one month period.

Please note: Archived items are stored separately.  If you want to borrow any items marked as "Archived" in the catalogue, please ask one of the librarians, Neil or Joe.

Doug Newlove 1948-2009

Doug was devoted to woodturning for more than 30 years. Prior to Toronto Woodturners Guild, he was a founding member of the Ontario Woodturners Guild and an active member of the Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild.  Always keen to learn, he attended several AAW symposiums and was a student of some outstanding turners including David Ellsworth and others. He would frequently receive requests from local area clubs to do demonstrations for their members.  Doug was always approachable and generous with sharing his skill and expertise. His work was exceptional with particular talent on form, shape and finishing. He was an undisputed leader in the field.

In September 2008, Doug presented the first demonstration to the Toronto Woodturners Guild and the topic was Handled Bowls. Sadly, in the spring of 2009, while battling tonsil cancer, Doug passed away.
